Dmitry Kabanov (Uni Münster): The MaRDI Open Interfaces software project to improve interoperability in Scientific Computing

Mathematik und Informatik

Computational experiments often require combining numerical packages written in different programming languages, which often requires writing bindings to pass the cross-language barrier and code modifications to adapt to different interfaces of these packages, namely, different function names and order of arguments. These tasks are prone to errors, require significant time, and lead to duplicated effort across research groups. The MaRDI* Open Interfaces software project addresses these issues by automating data marshalling between different languages and unifying interfaces for typical numerical problems such as integration of differential equations, . This allows users to switch easily between different solvers for the same problem regardless of language or interface differences, ultimately improving interoperability in Scientific Computing.

* MaRDI is the Mathematical Research Data Initiative of the National Research Data Infrastructure (Nationale ForschungsDatenInfrastructur).
