Welcome to the Faculty of Protestant Theology!

The Faculty of Protestant Theology at the WWU Münster is one of the largest schools of its kind in Germany and in Europe.

The faculty is currently involved in a total of 28 academic degree programs and offers a range of courses both for the pastoral training study programmes of Protestant theology and for the study of all teaching qualifications in Protestant religious education. In addition, the faculty participates in the Master’s programme “Ancient Cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean” (AKÖM), in the certificate programme “Hebrew”, in a Bachelor’s programme “Religious Studies” and more. Both the degree of Doctor of Theology (Dr. theol.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) can be obtained at the faculty.

The faculty is one of the most research-intensive Protestant theological faculties in Germany and has numerous national and international cooperation partners.

On the one hand, the six classic disciplines of Protestant theology are represented at the faculty: Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, Systematic Theology, Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology as well as Practical Theology/Religious Education.

On the other hand, the institutions special for Münster, namely the Institute for New Testament Textual Research (INTF) with the affiliated Bible Museum, the Institute for Ethics and Related Social Sciences (IfES), the Institutum Judaicum Delitzschianum (IJD), the Institute of Ecumenical Theology (OEK) as well as the Department of Reformed Theology, open up unique opportunities to pursue special emphases and interests during the course of study.
