Academia Meets Improvisational Theatre

Detention Rooms & Comets. The Academic Court in Münster

On Monday, 11 May 2026, from 18.00–20.00, the event ‘Karzer & Kometen – Das akademische Gericht in Münster. Wissenschaft trifft Improtheater’ (‘Detention Rooms & Comets – The Academic Court in Münster. Academia Meets Improvisational Theatre’) will take place in F24 in Münster. Admission is free, but registration is required.

The event takes you back to the world of student discipline and offences in the 19th century: disturbing the peace, drunkenness, extinguishing street lamps at night or forbidden duels – cases such as these were once heard before the academic court, with detention cells, an academic judge and a separate jurisdiction as integral parts of everyday university life.

On this evening, selected historical cases will be brought to life in a live performance together with the Peng! improv theatre group and the audience. Historian Kathrin Schulte will provide an academic context for the events portrayed and offer fascinating insights into student life in times gone by.

The event will be held in German.
