Application for a Doctoral Research Position

The development of the ability to conduct independent research is an important feature of a doctoral thesis. Therefore, it is a good idea to be proactive in identifying the own research interests. There are scientific and formal prearrangements to pass before a doctoral research study can begin.

1.) Scientific Research Area

It has to be decided in which scientific research area the doctoral thesis will be conducted. This step is associated with admittance into a research group, lead by a scientific advisor. The advisor must be one of the faculty members in chemistry and pharmacy, who will provide access to scientific resources and possibly personal wages of the doctoral student. Admittance is only possible, when such funding is available, but students, who bring their own grant to cover living costs (for example stipends), are welcome.
These scientific and financial boundary conditions require that an interested candidate initially sends an application to one of our faculty members, who will then decide, whether admittance to his/her research group is possible.

2.) Formal Enrolment

After the above questions have been settled, and the applicant has been invited by one of the faculty members, formal enrolment can begin.
Formal admittance to doctoral studies emcompasses the registration in the doctoral examination office (Promotionsprüfungsamt), using the application form "Antrag auf Zulassung zum Promotionsstudium"  and the  formal enrolment as a doctoral student in the central enrolment office of the University.

Then, the doctoral research work can begin.
