A new issue of the journal Current Opinion in Cell Biology is being published, and Prof. Erez Raz from Münster University played a central role in its production. Erez Raz, Director of the Institute for Cell Biology at the Centre for Molecular Biology of Inflammation, served as a guest editor of the prestigious scientific journal. Together with Prof. Michael Sixt from the Institute of Science and Technology in Klosterneuburg, in Austria, he was responsible for the entire contents of the issue on the topic of “Cell adhesion and migration”. Being nominated for this role reflects recognition of the scientific community for many years of outstanding work in the field of research.

Erez Raz – a research group leader in the Cells-in-Motion (CiM) Cluster of Excellence – and Michael Sixt, selected scientists who, in their opinion, have produced important and outstanding research results in recent years and obtained their contribution for the special issue of the Journal. As guest editors, Erez Raz and Michael Sixt also wrote the magazine’s editorial – in which they described their view of the work currently being performed in the field and presented the future research directions in this discipline.

Highlighting the high quality of Cell migration research in Münster is the participation of Münster researchers as authors for this special issue of the Journal. Among the guest authors selected to contribute for this publication were the CiM researchers Prof. Rupert Hallmann and Prof. Lydia Sorokin from the Institute for Physiological Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry, as well as Dr. Arndt Siekmann from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Biomedicine in Münster.

Current Opinion in Cell Biology is a special publication, as the authors do not simply present their latest results or those of others. Rather, the articles summarize in short, four-page essays very recent findings that lead to new understanding and are thus likely to change the path future research follows. Each guest author not only provides a comprehensive look into recent developments in their area of research, but also assesses the results, providing an expert view and opinion. This approach has proved popular with researchers. ”The Current opinion issues cover different research topics, providing an important reference for all scientists working in specific fields, as well as for others who want to inform themselves concerning the current status of research outside of their area of specialization” says Erez Raz. “Readers browse through them regularly to obtain insight into a particular research topic and if needed acquire more relevant information by referring to publications cited in the article.”
