#4genderstudies - Critical science needs gender studies!

Many colleagues, centers and institutes active in the field of gender studies are increasingly exposed to media attacks and devaluation. On the nationwide action day on December 18, 2017, ZEUGS drew attention to these developments and emphasized the relevance of critical science.

Gender studies makes a significant contribution to critical science and analyzes social power and power relations. At WWU, the ZEUGS and the Gender at the academic mid-level faculty research network are among the institutions active in this area of science.

The FiA research project aims to shed more light on the specifics of the NPO sector in Germany as an employer for women and at the same time to explain why the strong representation of women in the operative area is not reflected at the upper management and executive levels of the organizations. In the current brochure "Karriere im Nonprofit-Sektor? Working Conditions and Advancement Opportunities for Women" summarizes the results of the study on working conditions, career conditions, opportunities and obstacles in the nonprofit sector and gives recommendations for action to improve the working conditions and advancement opportunities for women in the nonprofit sector for associations and umbrella organizations in the sector, for policymakers, and for employees or male and female professionals in NPOs.

Giving space for critical thinking - 20 years of Femina Politica

Giving space for critical thinking - that is the claim of Femina Politica, the only German-language journal for feminist political science. On June 30, 2017, the journal celebrated its twentieth anniversary with the editorial staff, many authors, friends and the publisher at the Social Science Research Center Berlin.

The anniversary celebration was taken as an opportunity to discuss the history, status and future of feminist political science and to agree on what feminist thinking still means today: in the political and social sciences, in political practice, in social debates. The keynote lecture was held by Professor Birgit Sauer from the University of Vienna. Other contributions took stock of gender equality in science and discussed gender relations as power relations in light of the current issue of Femina Politica.

The flyer for the event and the table of contents of the anniversary issue can be downloaded here. A report on the event can be found in the Budrich-Blog (Barbara Budrich V
