2022 and before

On November, 28th, 2022 the 3. Deep Earth Mini Symposium took place in the Institute of Geophysics, organised together with the Instiute of Mineralogy.

October2022: Christine Thomas has been elected a member of the Senate of the University

June 2022: Katrin Hannemann and Stefanie Donner (BGR) are the new spokespeople for the equality committee = "Komitee für Chancengleichheit der DGG". https://dgg-online.de/die-dgg/struktur/chancengleichheit/

Dr. Katrin Hannemann has joined the Seismology group and the Institute of Geophysics on October 1st 2021 as staff member "akademische Rätin auf Zeit"

 

 

August 2021: Angelo Pisconti has defended his PhD on 23. August 2021 with a mark "Summa Cum Laude". Congratulations

He will for now continue as postdoc in the Seismology group

March 2021: Christine Thomas receives the Ernst von Rebeur-Paschwitz Medaille der DGG 2020 for excellentscientific work in Geophysics.

September 2020: Christine Thomas is now Chair of the   AG Seismologie/AK Seismologie of the DGG (together with Ulrich Wegler)

September 2020:  "AG Seismologie" was organised online by the seismology group in Münster and took place from 21. -24. September 2020 statt.

June 2020: Das BMBF-Projekt "3G-GWD-Third Generation Gravitational Wave Telescope, Project No. 6" was funded (June 2020). Alexander Mundt will work on this project for his PhD.

March 2020:  Lina Schumacher has defended her PhD today (March 6th 2020).

2019: We published a Nature Communications paper through  the TIMEleSS project: Langrand, C., Andrault, D., Durand, S. Konopkova, Z., Hilairet, N., Thomas, C., Merkel S., Kinetics and detectability of the bridgmanite to post-perovskite transformation in the Earth's D" layer, Nat comm., doi.org/10.1038/s41467-019-13482-x,  2019

 
 February 2019: The TIMEleSS seismology course (Univ. Lille, WWU) took place in Münster Feb 26/27th.  days of seismological principles and practical to understand concepts used in Seismology (and get a feel for the data).

Aniko, Jana and Nils have finished their MSc theses and have left Münster now.

Dr. Xiaolong Ma has left again after a successful 1,5 years and has gone back to China for now.

  • Welcome to Rûna van Tent from the University of Utrecht, who is carrying out an internship at the Institute of Geophysics, working on layering in the core also in collaboration with Prof Kansehima, Prof Arwen Deuss (Utrecht)
  •  We are greeting Prof Satoshi Kaneshima who is visiting the Institute for 1 week (Dec 2-7th). He gives a talk on seismic scattering near subduction zones.
  • Welcome to Dr. Sebastian Rost (Leeds) who is spending part of his sabbatical here.
  • Dr. Stéphanie Durand will leave the Seismology group in January to take up a CNRS position in Lyon. Well done, Stéphanie!
  •  Jennifer Jackson gave a short course on mineral geophysics in the Institute of Geophysics for all interested students, PhD students and postdocs. The course was well received by all participants.
