 Research interests

 Metamorphic petrology (with emphasis on high-pressure metamorphism) and geochronology (Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd, U-Pb, 40Ar-39Ar).

The aim of my research is to unravel the magmatic and tectonometamorphic evolution of distinct crustal segments and to date precisely specific stages of complex P-T-t-deformation paths. The geological significance of geochronological results is explored by a combination of a multimethod approach (various combinations of Rb-Sr, 40Ar-39Ar, Sm-Nd and U-Pb techniques) with detailed characterization of the phases used for dating (e.g. electron microprobe studies on mineral separates, application of LA-ICPMS, REM, CL imaging). Bulk-compositional data (major, minor, trace elements including REE) are used to constrain the importance of metasomatic alteration during metamorphism/deformation and to study the significance of such compositional modifications for interpretation of isotopic results.

Current research mainly focuses on projects related to the Cycladic blueschist belt (Greece), the Sistan suture zone (Iran), the Sanandaj-Sirjan Zone (Iran), New Caledonia and Tadschikistan. Previous activities include studies in the Sudetes (Poland, Czech Republic), Norway, Tienshan (China), South India, Oman, Italy (Calabria), Antarctica (Wilson terrane) and California (Franciscan Complex).
