Master projects in Mineralogy / Experimental Geochemistry available for 2018
We are looking for motivated students who would like to do their Master thesis in Mineralogy / Expriemental Geochemistry. The topics offered are:
- Constraints on inner core composition from high-pressure studies on Fe-Si alloys
Ilya Kupenko, Carmen Sanchez-Valle - Rheology of ice and the thermal evolution of icy moons
Carmen Sanchez-Valle, Christian Vollmer - Mobility of carbonated melts in the upper mantle

12/2017 DFG-ANR TiMEleSS project
The DFG and French ANR have founded the collaborative project TiMEleSS (Phase Transformations, Microstructures, and their Seismic Signals from the Earth’s mantle) between the Institut für Mineralogie and the Institut für Geophysik of WWU Münster, the University of Lille and GFZ Potsdam. Starting in March 2018, the project will explore the link between microstructures, phase transitions and seismic structures in the deep Earth mantle using a combination of advanced X-ray diffraction methods at synchrotron radiation sources, in-house experimental facilities, and collaboration with seismologists.
Additional information about the project and the open positions can be found at:

Im Rahmen des Projekts ist am Institut für Mineralogie eine Stelle ausgeschrieben.
Neuer Geschäftsführender Direktor und neuer stellvertretender Geschäftsführender Direktor
Ab dem 10. November 2017 übernimmt Prof. Stephan Klemme (Professur für Petrologie) das Amt des Geschäftsführenden Direktors am Institut für Mineralogie. Stellvertreter ist Prof. Andreas Stracke (Professur für Geochemie).
