MEET Milestones

  • 2008 – Endowed professorship (funded by Evonik, Rockwood Lithium and Volkswagen) to 2012
  • 2009 – Foundation stone laid for MEET, with the motto "Ready to MEET"
  • 2010 – MEET building completed (11-month construction time; funded by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the government in Berlin and the University of Münster)
  • 2012 – MEET is named “Site of Progress” & “Germany at its Best” (State of North Rhine-Westphalia)
  • 2012 – Excellent Battery Centre (German Ministry of Education and Research), extended in 2016 and 2019
  • 2013 – MEET becomes a central research institute at the University of Münster
  • 2013 – Funding is granted by the German Ministry of Education and Research for an electrolyte laboratory
  • 2014 – The Helmholtz Institute Münster/“Ionics in Energy Storage” is opened
  • 2015 – Battery Safety Laboratory, BaSiL, set up (German Ministry of Education and Research)
  • 2017 – Funding is granted by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia for a Graduate School “GrEEn”
  • 2019 – First company spin-off: E-Lyte Innovations
  • 2019 – Münster/MEET is selected in the competition to find a location for the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production FFB
  • 2020 – Funding is granted by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia for the International Graduate School “BACCARA”
  • 2022 – Construction Start of Fraunhofer FFB and HI MS Building
  • 2022 – Start-up: Battery line for the processing of lithium metal
  • 2022 – Frontier Research Lab Europe in Münster with LGES started
