TwinLife

TwinLife is a behavioural genetic twin family study on the development of social inequality, which has been funded by the German Research Foundation as a long-term project since 2013. As part of the study, researchers from psychology and sociology collect data from twin pairs and their families in Germany by means of annual surveys. Using various methods of twin research, they investigate how individual social differences arise over the course of a lifetime due to genetic and environmental factors. Additonally, they analyse genetic (e.g. single nucleotide polymorphisms, polygenic risk scores) and epigenetic data to improve our understanding of the interaction between genes and environment including the underlying mechanisms.
