Abstract: My broad goal is to understand the geometric meaning of a system of PDEs called the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov (KZ) equations. They describe the correlation functions of a 2D conformal field theory known as the Wess-Zumino-Witten model. More specifically, I wish to understand the Ramadas-Belkale proof of the unitary of the KZ connection in genus 0. This talk will not reach that goal. Rather, I will explain where this topic comes from, and where it falls in "the grand scheme of things".
