Abstract: We consider intermediate Ricci curvatures which interpolate between sectional curvature and Ricci curvature. In this talk I will show that the existence of a Riemannian metric of positive intermediate Ricci curvature is preserved under certain types of surgeries, i.e. certain cut and paste operations on the given manifold. As applications we obtain a wide range of new examples of manifolds with a Riemannian metric of positive intermediate Ricci curvature, including all exotic spheres that bound parallelisable manifolds, as well as results on the corresponding moduli spaces of metrics.
