By comparison to 'continuous' random matrices such as the GOE far less is known about random matrices whose entries are drawn from discrete distributions. Nonetheless, such matrices play a prominent role in combinatorics and coding theory. In this talk I am going to show how the study of random combinatorial matrices is linked to mathematical physics, particularly the study of disordered systems.
