Abstract: In this talk, I will describe some topological-rigidity phenomena that occur in the context of positive scalar curvature. Specifically, I will present a proof that a complete contractible 3-manifold with positive scalar curvature must be homeomorphic to Euclidean 3-space. I will furthermore explain the interplay between minimal surfaces, scalar curvature and the topology at infinity.
