Abstract: There is a very rich theory of positive divisors on varieties, starting with very ample divisors. Inspired by exceptional divisors of singularities and by homological considerations, we start a systematic investigation of negative divisors. Just like with amplitude, there are geometrical, numerical and cohomological aspects. (Joint work with Andreas Hochenegger.)
