Abstract: Sorin Popa's deformation/rigidity theory for von Neumann algebras lead to several striking classification theorems for crossed product II_1 factors. I will present some of the basic ideas and sketch a proof of a joint theorem with Popa saying that crossed products with the free groups F_2 und F_3 are never isomorphic.
