I will present my joint work with Guoliang Yu on the Novikov conjecture for groups that act isometrically and metrically properly on some simply-connected and non-positively curved Hilbert manifolds. Some motivating examples of such groups come from a famous theorem by G. Kasparov and a construction involving the group of volume preserving diffeomorphisms of a closed orientable Riemannian manifold.
