Tensor C*-categories arising as bimodule categories of a II_1 factor In this talk I will speak about work with Sébastien Falguières. First, I will introduce the terminology in the title and give a short overview over invariants of von Neumann algebras. Then, I will describe our results saying that many tensor C*-categories are equivalent to the bimodule category of a II_1 factor. In the end, I will explain how to obtain concrete classes of examples such as finite tensor C*-categories or representation categories of certain discrete quantum groups.
