Flat k-parameter families deforming toric varieties can be obtained from decompositions of certain polyhedra into k+1 Minkowski summands. This construction is also reflected in the infinitesimal theory and finally leads in many cases to the complete description of the versal (i.e. maximal) homogeneous deformation of toric varieties.
