Oberseminar Geometrie, Topologie und Gruppentheorie: Amador Martin Pizarro: on intersection with Tori
Thursday, 04.11.2010 10:00 im Raum SR 1d
Abstract: The conjecture of intersection with Tori (CIT), also known as Zilber-Pink´s conjecture, rougly states that for a closed subvariety of a torus there is a finite set of cosets of proper tori that would describe all possible atypical interesections with any coset of a torus. A weaker version of the conjecture can be proved by a clever use of Model Theory and a passage to differential geometry using Ax result on Schanuel´s conjecture for differential fields. In this talk, aimed to an audience with a very basic acquaintance with Model Theory, we will present this result as well as discuss possible generalizations to positive characteristic and implications.
