Nationality:

Dr. Mario Rosario Guarracino is a staff researcher at the High Performance Computing and Networking Institute (ICAR) of the National Council for Research (CNR) of Italy where he leads the Computational Data Science Laboratory (CDS-Lab). Furthermore, he is affiliated with the Centre for Applied Optimization at the University of Florida since 2005, and the Institute for High Mathematics F. Saveri since 2009. Dr. Guarracino holds a degree in Applied Mathematics and a doctorate degree in Mathematics.

Dr. Guarracino's objective is to study and develop novel algorithms, methods and software tools based on mathematical programming and statistical learning theory. His expertise is in supervised classification, clustering, variable selection, outlier detection, and incrementallearning for static and streaming data. He applies his expertise to unveil biological mechanisms, using data produced by high throughput technologies, such as Microarray, Next-Generation Sequencers (NGS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (MNR), Raman and Mass spectrometers.

His aim is to devise novel statistical methodologies to help life scientists to have a better insight in their problems, without the hassle of integrating and analysing large quantities of data coming from different sources.
