Robert grew up in rural eastern Germany and carried out his undergraduate studies at Jacobs University Bremen Germany (2016), where he worked in the field of host-guest chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Werner M. Nau. During his studies he also spent time in the group of Prof. Geoffrey Coates at Cornell University (USA) and the group of Prof. Oren A. Scherman at the University of Cambridge (UK). Afterwards he obtained his PhD at the University of Oxford in 2020 under the guidance of Prof. Paul D. Beer and Prof. Jason J. Davis working on electrochemical anion sensors. Remaining in the same groups as a postdoc, and from 2021 Fulford Junior Research Fellow at Somerville College, his work focused on the development of (interfacial) fluorescent sensing devices. He joined the group of Prof. Ben L. Feringa at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) in September 2022 as a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow to work on redox-driven molecular switches and machines. In July 2024, Robert started his independent junior research group at the Organic Chemistry Institute, University of Münster. His group is generously supported by Prof. Bart Jan Ravoo, the Organic Chemistry Institute and the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie.
