International Münster Summer School in Biology 2015 - Molecular Cell Biology
From mid-August to mid-September 2015, we had the pleasure of hosting eleven international students, who were coming from Greece, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK, Brazil, Hungary, and Kazakhstan. In addition, also four students of the University of Münster were attending the 1st "International Münster Summer School in Biology". The summer school started with a welcome dinner on Saturday, 15th August at the faculty, followed by a joint breakfast and a city tour on Sunday. From Monday to Thursday, all participants had then the chance to gain practical experience in the field of molecular cell biology by joining one of the research groups of our faculty for the next four weeks. To widen the knowledge about the topic, we also invited two international seminar speakers. In the first week, Prof. Ann Cuypers from Hasselt University talked about metal-induced oxidative challenges in plants. In the second week, Prof. Thomas Schmitt-John from Aarhus University gave a talk about the genetic and cell biological analysis of motor neuron degeneration. After both seminars, the speakers went for dinner with the participants of the summer school. While this opportunity was used to further discuss their ongoing research, we also talked a lot about the different educational systems of the home countries of the participating students and the cultural differences in general. Before it was time to say goodbye, we ended our summer school on 11th September with a final symposium and BBQ at the faculty.
