    "Neo-imperialist Foreign Policies of the Russia and the USA in the South Caucasus and Central Asia.  New Geopolitical Changes and Clash of National Interests"

    This thesis examines the post-Cold War foreign policies of the United States and Russia in the South Caucasus and Central Asia from a theoretical and practical view. It investigates how the White House and the Kremlin policies towards specific countries in the region have affected the region as a whole. Specifically, two case studies are used to explore the geopolitical implications of Great Power politics in the above mentioned regions- the three South Caucasus ethnic conflicts and the „democratization“ of the post-Soviet countries (the Rose Revolution in Georgia and the Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan).

    The proposed research will contribute at both the theoretical and empirical levels to the enhanced understanding of the linkages between international relations theories and Great Power and Foreign politics. The major inquiry of this thesis is to analyze three ethnic conflicts and two revolutions in the region from the perspective of regional security and foreign policy analysis, which is said, to be part of the New Great Game. The thesis hereby aims to contribute to a theoretical development of the Great Power and neo-imperialist politics, as well as the linkage between ethnic conflicts and colour revolutions in the region. Therefore, in relation to the above-mentioned hypothesis, I research the formulation of the strategies towards those countries, and I seek answers to the questions which are:

    • What are the main differences and similarities in the foreign policies of the US and Russia?
    • How has the Rose revolution affected the Russian aggressiveness in the August, 2008?
    • What is the linkage between the Tulip revolution and role of the American military bases in Kyrgyzstan?
    • Turkey’s and Iran’s influence in the South Caucasus and Central Asia;
    • Zero-sum approach in the foreign policy of Turkey towards the region;
    • New approaches for the democratization in the region countries; Colour revolutions vs. Democratization?
    • How do and will these conflicts shape the emerging power-rivalry in the region between U.S and Russia after the Georgian crisis and Turkey-Armenian relations?
