Overview about support-services:
- General and social support and advice (also with references to specialist counselling at the faculties and/or Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB)).
- General assistance for filling in forms at public departments, support for room hunting, contacting the “Studentenwerk” (organisation providing social, financial and cultural support services to students in Germany) etc.
- Introduction days for first-year students (with participation of student advisors from different faculties, the Department for Foreign Affairs, the “Studentenwerk” and the Central Student Advisory Service); introduction days for first-year students, also for freshmen at the “Studienkolleg” (i.e. a course program in which foreign students prepare for approx. 1 year before they can enter the normal university courses).
- Programs made by tutors for first-year students.
- Sponsorships, “Friendship-Program”: Sponsorships arranged between students and families or German fellow students.

- Service for education in development policy: this service is about providing the students a wide knowledge about questions and problems concerning development policy. Those problems are connected to the academic studies. Therefore, the experience of foreign students are very useful. There is a close collaboration with the respective faculties.
- Events concerning regional geography: In collaboration with foreign student associations and other organisations and initiatives of relevance, we offer information about the political, cultural, and social situations in the respective home countries of our students (lectures, movies, slide shows, panel discussions etc.). These events are also relevant for German students, for example as preparation for a study visit in a foreign country.
- Cultural activities: Author readings, folklore (e.g. concerts), workshops, performances etc. Highlight is the annual grand summer festival with exhibiting foreign student associations and up to 10.000 foreign and German participants / visitors.
- Leisure time facilities: Field-trips, fireside chats, international cafés (at summertime), regulars’ table (i.e. a meeting place in a certain café or bar, in this case the “Café Couleur” in the “Brücke”), festivities, chess, volleyball and football tournaments, sightseeing etc.
- International groups for women.
- Reintegration services: Lectures, daytime courses, contacts etc.
- Courses concerning Germany: Historical background and correlation between the republic’s development and the current situation.
- Alumni International: Keeping contact to alumni and support for those, who returned to their respective home countries.
- Café Couleur: well priced offerings of international dishes and breakfast.
If required, representatives from the faculties, Student Advisory Service, “Studentenwerk”, AStA/ASV and Foreigner’s Advisory Councils will be involved.
