Official inauguration ceremony – May 1997

A "switch point for Cypriot studies in Europe" – thus the Rector of the University of Münster labelled the Institute during the official inauguration ceremony on May 30th, 1997. Many notables – from Cyprus, too – took part in the ceremony.

Botzenhart, the rector of the University of Cyprus, Prof. Dr. M. Chacholiades, the rector of the University of Münster, Prof. Dr. G. Dieckheuer, and the Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture, G. Hadjinicolaou.

The representatives of the University of Cyprus came to the ceremony with a group of musicians and dancers – all students of that university. With their music, songs and dances they succeeded in transferring the audience atmospherically to the island of Cyprus.

On the occasion of the inauguration ceremony an exhibition of old maps of Cyprus from a private collection in the vicinity of Münster was shown in the historic castle of Münster.
