Franziska von Broich
My name is Franzi von Broich, and I studied physical education and health/nursing to become a teacher. Winter sports have been a passion of mine since I was a child. I first learned about the ski project when I participated in the alpine skiing field trip organized by the Institute of Sports Science in February 2024. That same winter, I joined the trip right away, and I’ve been part of the team ever since. As part of this, I also earned my ski instructor certification. Since February 2025, I’ve been assisting with both the excursion and the ski project in collaboration with the clinic as a student assistant.
What I find particularly wonderful about the collaborative project between the Institute of Sports Science and the Children’s Clinic at the UKM is the combination of sports, community, and the opportunity to provide children and teens with diverse backgrounds with special and positive experiences in the snow. I’ve already had the chance to spend several weeks at the Zaferna Hut. My time there is a highlight for me every year—not only because of the skiing we do together, but above all because of meeting wonderful people, sharing experiences, and enjoying the special atmosphere at the Zaferna Hut.

Nils Wiggers
Hi, I’m Nils! I studied mathematics and physical education and am currently completing my teaching internship at a high school. Before that, I was the operations manager at KletterBar Münster. I also love to stay active in my free time: bouldering, rock climbing, mountain biking, or hiking—preferably in the mountains.
I’m already familiar with the Kleinwalsertal from family vacations I took there as a child. I got my first taste of working with people at the university hospital during my federal volunteer service before starting college. While studying sports, I met Eike and joined the ski trip for the first time in the spring of 2023. On these sports trips, I’m there as an “all-rounder.”
Over a cold drink with Eike in the Kleinwalsertal, we came up with the idea for an afternoon of climbing at the KletterBar Münster, which we organized for the first time in November 2023. Since then, I’ve regularly led climbing outings for families.
I especially love it when children rediscover what their bodies are capable of and realize, “I can do this!” Parents, too, can gain their own experiences and see what their children are capable of. Sports offer many opportunities for this—and witnessing this growing confidence in their own abilities motivates me time and time again.

Frederike Kersten
Hi, my name is Frederike Kersten, better known as “Freddy.” Even while I was studying sports science, I helped out with ski trips to the Zafernahütte and sports projects as a student assistant. I’ve been working in sports and exercise therapy on the pediatric oncology ward at the UKM since 2025. Since then, I’ve continued to support the sports projects from within the hospital. As a certified ski instructor, I’m now part of the core team and look forward to supporting the participants on their journey back to an active life.
