Consequences of the lack of exercise for children

The ongoing Corona pandemic has led to an increased lack of exercise among many children and young people, especially in socially disadvantaged families. Prof. Dr. Nils Neuber from the Department of Physical Education and Teaching Research reported on this in an interview with the Westfälische Nachrichten. He explained, among other things, that although sporting activities have declined, children and young people have found other outlets for their urge to move. Nevertheless, it is important to promote sports and exercise in a targeted manner in order to counteract the ever-increasing deficits in the physical activity behavior of adolescents. Not only physical exercise alone is important, but also the interpersonal interaction that can be found in a team on the playing field. After the Corona pandemic, there is a need to invest more in children's and youth sports. Click here for the interview with the WN (only available in German). Astrid Bühl takes up the arguments of Prof. Dr. Nils Neuber and calls for urgent Corona action. She claimed that an increased movement offer by co-operation of sport associations, honorary ones and the sport federation is necessary. Opening gymnasiums to all and schoolyards also on weekends would be a good way to counteract the lack of exercise (source: Westfälische Nachrichten).
