Video-based mobility assessment in older adults
We are looking for Bachelor or Master students of Movement Science with an interest in mobility, gait and movement analysis, healthy ageing, or video technology. Experience with video analysis is beneficial, however, not mandatory.
Background and aim
Simple mobility tests, such as standing up from a chair, walking, turning, and balancing, are often used to assess mobility in older adults. Examples are the TUG, Gait-Speed Tests, Chair-Rise Tests, and SPPB.
In our project, we want to investigate how these tests relate to each other and whether video recordings can be used to assess mobility in a simple and useful way. We are interested in comparing video-based results with conventional manual assessment and in identifying what additional information a video may provide.
Your assignment
You will work on a clearly defined subproject within a small research team. Possible tasks include literature searching and data extraction, video annotation, checking video quality, analyzing mobility-test results, or comparing manual and video-based measurements.
Possible Projects
BSc/MSc thesis: Literature review of video-based mobility assessment
BSc/MSc thesis: Relationship between different mobility-test results
BSc/MSc thesis: Comparison of manual and video-based assessment of one mobility test
BSc/MSc thesis: Video quality, task execution, and measurement errors in mobility assessment
What else do you need to know?
You will be working in the department of Movement Science located at Horstmarer Landweg 50 in Münster.
