Review of the first Klimaschutzforum at the University of Münster
On May 19, the first Klimaschutzforum took place at the University of Münster. The Sustainability Office invited students and employees to learn about the current state of climate protection measures at the university and to develop ideas for the new climate protection concept in a joint discussion.
After a welcome by David Berger and Dr. Leandra Praetzel from the Climate Protection Management, there was an introduction to the university's integrated climate protection concept. The new climate protection concept (January 2025 to January 2027) is funded by the National Climate Protection Initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and is based on the following principles: goal-oriented, action-oriented, cross-sectoral, participatory, politically legitimate, controllable, and quality-assured. After presenting the schedule for the climate protection concept, which is to be characterized by participation throughout, Julia Strietholt provided information on the status of energy management at the University of Münster.
In the second part of the event, participants had the opportunity to develop their own ideas. At various stations focusing on different topics such as “Energy & Buildings,” “Mobility & Nutrition,” “IT, Procurement & Waste Disposal,” “Research & Teaching,” and “Climate Adaptation & Biodiversity,” the approximately 60 participants engaged in conversation and recorded measures for greater climate protection at the University of Münster. The results of this brainstorming session can be viewed on this page. The Klimaschutzforum was well received and is to be repeated at regular intervals in the future. Anyone who was unable to attend the Klimaschutzforum but would like to contribute ideas for climate protection measures at the university can do so here on the Sustainability Office website.
