ZIN at Campus Earth Sustainability Day 2024 - ZIN's participation at a glance

On November 8, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Fürstenberghaus, the Geomuseum and the Bibelmuseum

Once again this year, ZIN scientists are participating in the program of the CAMPUS EARTH Sustainability Day on 8 November 2024. A wide range of events on the topic of “On the way to a sustainable future with AI” will take place in the Fürstenberghaus, the Geomuseum and the Bibelmuseum in the city center of Münster. Anyone who is interested is invited to the diverse program.

Lectures will take place in the Fürstenberghaus (F2) between 13:00 and 15:00. After a greeting by ZIN member and Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Michael Quante, ZIN scientist Prof. Dr. Anne Remke from the “Safety-Critical Systems” working group will give the first lecture on “Formal Methods and AI - Contradiction or Symbiosis”. At 2 p.m., ZIN scientist Prof. Dr. Benjamin Risse from the Institute of Geoinformatics will give an easy-to-understand introduction to the workings of AI systems in the citizens' lecture “Artificial Intelligence - Opportunities and Challenges”. Then he explores the question of the extent to which the concept of intelligence applies to these systems.

In the afternoon, all interested are invited to take part in workshops on various sustainability topics in the seminar room of the Bibelmuseum. At 4.30 pm, ZIN scientists Prof. Dr. Simone Sinn and Junior Prof. Dr. Markus Rüsch as well as Lara Axtmann from the Institute for Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology will hold a workshop on the question “Why live sustainably? Impulses from Christianity and Buddhism”. This will be followed at 5.45 p.m. by the workshop “Sustainable batteries for hands-on experience”, organized by the MEET Battery Research Centre. You can register to take part in the workshops here.

The third CAMPUS EARTH Sustainability Day will conclude at 6.30 pm with a panel discussion in the Geomuseum on the topic of “The unease with AI” with ZIN scientist Prof. Dr. Sigrid Kannengießer as a panel guest.

There will be information points on many interesting sustainability institutions and initiatives in the foyer of the Geomuseum from 10:00 to 18:00. ZIN and the ULYSSEUS Innovation Hub “Socio-Ecological Sustainability” are organizing a joint information point. This will present the diverse activities of the ZIN and the Innovation Hub “Socio-Ecological Sustainability”, which the University of Münster is organizing as part of the international university alliance ULYSSEUS.

At the information stand “Colorful and biodegradable: Curcumin as a sustainable dye for packaging materials” by ZIN board member Prof. Dr. Bodo Philipp, information will be provided about the ECOPRO project, in which biodegradable dye molecules based on the natural substance curcumin are being developed.

An overview of the entire program can be found on the CAMPUS EARTH Sustainability Day website.
