Magnitude and origin of isotopic diversity in the Earth’s mantle
The main objective is to gain novel insights about (1) the magnitude and origin of isotopic diversity in the Earth’s mantle and (2) how the isotopically distinct materials are sampled and eventually represented by erupted melts. This will be achieved using combined chemical and isotopic studies of melt inclusions (MI) in phenocrysts from mantle-derived basalts (OIB), whose whole rock chemical (major and trace element) and isotopic (Sr-Nd-Hf-Pb) composition have previously been determined in several recent studies
