Research Focus
- The goal of my PhD is to experimentally constrain the phase behaviour and elastic properties of ammonia–salt–water mixtures which are possible constituents of subsurface oceans in icy moons. These oceans exist under low-temperature, high-pressure conditions that significantly alter the physical properties of aqueous systems. Experiments under relevant P–T conditions will be performed using a Cryo-DAC and in situ Raman spectroscopy will be used to identify phase transitions and crystallisation pathways, while Brillouin spectroscopy will be used to determine acoustic velocities from which elastic moduli can be derived. The resulting dataset will provide experimentally constrained input for geophysical models of icy moons hosting subsurface oceans.
