On 1 November 2022, Dr Johannes Kasnatscheew will take over as Division Manager of the research division “Materials” at MEET Battery Research Center at the University of Münster. Kasnatscheew succeeds Dr Tobias Placke, who previously headed the research division for ten years.

For Johannes Kasnatscheew, starting at MEET is a return to his scientific roots: In 2012 he completed his master thesis at the battery research center and worked on alternative electrolyte materials. In 2017, Kasnatscheew completed his doctorate on the topic of “Determination of Failure Sources in Lithium-ion Batteries at High-Voltage and Their Mitigation”. He then took up a postdoctoral position at Helmholtz Institute Münster (HI MS; IEK-12) of Forschungszentrum Jülich. Before moving to MEET Battery Research Center, he already gained management experience as a group leader at HI MS. The PhD chemist worked on polymer-based solid electrolytes and their elucidation of failure mechanisms under battery application, as well as on the development of electrolytes for high-voltage applications.

The 35-year-old is looking forward to his time at MEET with great anticipation: “The Materials research division makes important contributions to batteries of the future. Working with a talented team at a globally respected institute full of opportunities and know-how fills me with pride," says Kasnatscheew.
