On 26 June 2026, Marcus Lobbes will give his guest lecture on theatre “Theater ist Werkstatt. Theater ist Forschung. Theater ist Zukunft.” (“Theatre is workshop. Theatre is research. Theatre is future.”) The lecture will take place from 2.15 pm to 4.30 pm in the Philosophikum (Domplatz 23, 48143 Münster), room 201.

The Academy for Theatre and Digitality is a globally unique institution dedicated to digital innovation, artistic research and technology-focused training and further education across all areas of the performing arts: on, in front of and behind the stage.

Under the direction of Marcus Lobbes, the Academy, as an independent division of Theater Dortmund, has been dedicated since its foundation in 2019 to exploring the structural conditions of artistic and technical practice on stage, which are significantly shaped by digitalisation.

Key features of the Academy’s work include artistic, technical and scientific research, prototyping, application-oriented testing, practical consultancy, the development of cultural policy frameworks, and networking at regional, national and international levels between actors from the spheres of culture, academia and business.

Marcus Lobbes is Director of the Academy for Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund. In this role, he is in demand locally, nationally and internationally for lectures and public discussions; a key priority for him is the development and promotion of a wide variety of networks within the performing arts, as well as communicating artistic research in line with the latest technologies to theatre and educational institutions, policymakers and the general public. Since 1995, he has worked as a director, set designer and writer in musical and spoken theatre, and since 2014 has also been regularly invited as a guest lecturer to various renowned colleges and universities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
