

Prof. Dr. Sanath Sameera Wijesinghe is Head and Professor in Legal Studies at the Department of Legal Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, The Open University of Sri Lanka (Colombo). He is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and an Associate Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
He obtained his PhD in Law from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia, in 2021, where his doctoral thesis on the relationship between intellectual property law, public health, and regulatory autonomy was nominated for the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award. In Sri Lanka, he has contributed to the development of legal education, including the introduction of Health Law and technology-related subjects into the LLB curriculum.
Wijesinghe’s research focuses on international economic law, intellectual property, health law, and digital regulation, with particular emphasis on the balance between private rights and public interest in developing country contexts. His work engages with themes such as access to medicines, TRIPS flexibilities, digital copyright, and the governance of emerging technologies.
