Warning about the Microsoft Outlook app for Android and iOS

Due to current requests the IT Security Management Team would like to point out that it is not permitted to use the Microsoft Outlook app for Android and iOS to retrieve emails from your WWU Exchange account. By using the app, you are sharing your passwords with third parties, which violates the IT Usage Regulations of the University of Münster. Although the app uses the Microsoft Outlook logo, it was originally developed by the company Acompli and stores login data on third-party servers outside the scope of the DSGVO (see Heise [de]).

Please uninstall the Outlook app for Android or iOS if you have used it on your mobile device. In addition, you need to change the passwords of all email accounts you have linked via the app as soon as possible. You can find more information about secure passwords and a password generator here.

Here you can find instructions on how to access your Exchange mailbox using iOS or Android Mail as an alternative. You can also access your email directly from your (mobile) device's browser via the Outlook Web App.

The original Microsoft Outlook program (from the Office package) for Windows or macOS is not affected by this.
