2010-11-23 Cosmin Laslau Receives NRW Young Scientist Award 2010
The Graduate School of Chemistry has honored Cosmin Laslau with the NRW Young Scientist Award 2010 in the category chemistry. The award ceremony took place on 23. November 2010 in the Akademie der Wissenschaften in Düsseldorf, together with six other awardees honored in the network of NRW Research Schools.

Cosmin Laslau was born in Romania, and received Canadian citizenship when he was 12 years old. He received his Bachelors degree at the University of Toronto. Afterwards, he moved to the University of Auckland (New Zealand), where he finished his Masters and began on his PhD project.

The honored work was published in: Cosmin Laslau, Zoran D. Zujovic, Lijuan Zhang, Graham A. Bowmaker, Jadranka Travas-Sejdic, Chem. Mater. 2009, 21, 954-962. The oxidative polymerization of aniline was carried out under controlled pH conditions. The authors have shown for the first time that reproducible and well-defined particle morphologies can be generated on the nanoscale under these conditions. The work is expected to be of high relevance for electronic and opto-electronic devices.
