Abstract: One of the many results in Gromov's seminal work on holomorphic curves in symplecitc manifolds was that symplectic embeddings of balls are subject to restrictions which go beyond the trivial volume conditions. In my talk I will discuss the basic questions that derive from Gromov's work and some new techniques and results that address them.
