The entry and admission requirements for enrollment in the AKOEM master's programme are

(1) In addition to the general requirements for enrolment, admission to the Master’s Degree Programme “Ancient Cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean (AKOEM)” requires completion of a relevant degree programme with a standard period of study of at least six semesters, successfully completed with a Bachelor’s degree or another professionally qualifying degree (Diplom, Magister, Staatsexamen, ecclesiastical examination, etc.). For the purposes of Sentence 1, a relevant degree programme is, in particular, a programme in Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology, Egyptology, Coptology, Ancient Cultures, Ancient History, History (with a focus on Ancient History), Prehistory and Early History, Classical or (Early) Christian Archaeology, Classical Philology, Christian Theology, Jewish Studies, Byzantine Studies, Arabic Studies/Islamic Studies, Religious Studies (with a focus on Antiquity), or a related degree programme with a focus on Antiquity at a German or foreign higher education institution. Degrees awarded by higher education institutions outside the European Union shall be reviewed by the Student Admissions Office for equivalence. In cases of doubt regarding the equivalence of degrees awarded outside the scope of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany, an assessment of the equivalence of the degree shall be obtained from the Secretariat of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany.

(2) Applicants who did not obtain their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution must additionally provide evidence of sufficient German language proficiency to actively participate in the courses. This requirement shall be fulfilled in accordance with the provisions of the DSH Examination Regulations of the University of Münster. This requirement does not apply to applicants whose native language is German.

(3) Knowledge of an ancient language equivalent to at least 15 ECTS credits, proficiency in English, and knowledge of an additional modern foreign language are strongly recommended.
