Max Laserson acted as a intermediary between various national and Jewish groups in interwar Latvia, as well as between legal cultures and their associated value systems in Latvia, Russia, Germany, Israel and the United States. Can he be regarded as a kind of litmus test with regard to the mutual ‘translatability’ of these legal cultures?
