Visit to Maringá, Brazil

In March, Professor Dr. Andreas Hensel visited the State University of Maringá (Universidade Estadual de Maringá, Brazil) to participate in a series of academic and research activities for the Postgraduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PCF).
The invitation was extended by Professor Dr. João Carlos Palazzo de Mello with the aim of strengthening the existing partnership between the two institutions.

Prof Hensel gave two lectures. The first was entitled “Studying pharmacy in Germany. University of Münster: an overview”. Here he showed the PCF students the academic and research opportunities at the German institution and pointed out possibilities for exchange and collaboration.
In the second lecture, entitled “Combating Uropathogenic E. coli against Urinary Tract Infections: From Natural Products to New Molecular Targets”, the researcher shared scientific data confirming the traditional use of plants such as cranberry (Früchte von Vaccinium macrocarpon Aiton, Ericaceae) and common horsetail (Equiseti herba, Equisetum arvense L., Equisetaceae) in the treatment of urinary tract infections.
