MUST Winter School 2026 in Münster: International impulses for battery research

On March 18 and 19, 2026, the fourth MUST Winter School took place in Münster. Researchers from the University of Münster, the University of Twente, and Stanford University came together to discuss current developments in battery research and sustainable manufacturing.

Hosted by Prof. Simon Lux from the Institute of Business Chemistry, the program featured talks on topics including LFP modeling, smart battery manufacturing, ion transport, innovative electrode materials, and digital approaches to battery cell production. A special highlight was the keynote by Prof. Dirk Prüfer on renewable biological resources for sustainable materials and products.

Another program highlight was the visit to the FFB PreFab, where participants gained insight into Münster’s battery cell production research infrastructure. On the second day, nine researchers presented their work in elevator pitches. The Best Pitch Award went to Yijin Wang from the University of Twente.

Once again, the MUST Winter School 2026 demonstrated the value of international exchange for advancing battery research. The next MUST Winter School will take place at Stanford in 2027.
