Transfer – Connecting Science, Practice, and Society

The Center for Social Skills (CeSoS) understands transfer as an active exchange between science, professional practice, and society. The aim is to make findings on the development, promotion, and assessment of social skills effective beyond the academic sphere. For us, transfer is the third central task alongside research and education. We pursue the goal of making scientifically based concepts accessible, usable, and further developing them together with partners in practice.

  • Practical research

Research at CeSoS combines scientific knowledge with practical applicability. We investigate how social skills can be measured, promoted, and assessed, for example by developing diagnostic procedures and evaluating specific training formats. Results are published in scientific journals and discussed at conferences with representatives from academia and practice. We will also report on selected articles on our homepage in the future.

  • Transfer into practice

CeSoS translates research findings into concrete, application-oriented formats, for example with the following projects:

    Social Skills Parcours

With the Social Skills Parcours, CeSoS is developing an interactive format for self-awareness and reflection on social skills. In short, everyday situations, participants can experience different forms of social interaction and then receive individual feedback on their social skills. The course is aimed at students and external interested parties and is also part of ongoing research work.

    Social skills for start-up success

In the “Entrepreneurial Skills” project, CeSoS is cooperating with the REACH EUREGIO Start-up Center and other departments of the Institute of Psychology to investigate social skills in the context of start-ups. Pitch videos are used to analyze which behaviors, such as body language or style of speech, are associated with perceived and actual start-up success. The results will be used in future lectures and workshops.

  • Science communication and visibility

CeSoS uses science communication to convey findings on social skills in a way that is understandable and effective for the public. In future, you will find relevant information, press releases, and news directly on our homepage.

We also regularly report on current projects and research results on Instagram:

The Instagram channel for the master's program in Psychological Analysis of Social Dynamics (@masterpsychologie.pasd) offers insights into workshops and projects at CeSoS, among other things.

Prof. Dr. Mitja Back, scientific director of CeSoS, uses his Instagram channel (@dr.mitjaback) to convey current findings in personality psychology in an understandable and vivid way, while also reporting on CeSoS topics.

  • Cooperation and collaboration

CeSoS welcomes exchange and collaboration with practice partners, institutions, and anyone interested in social skills. If you would like to design projects with us or collaborate with us, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you.
