Training– Reflecting, developing, and assessing social skills

Social skills are essential in academic studies and professional life, especially in fields where interpersonal interaction plays a central role, such as medicine, psychotherapy, or educational professions.

The Center for Social Skills (CeSoS) at the University of Münster is committed to university teaching with the aim of specifically promoting students' personal and social development. Our formats are practical, scientifically established, and interdisciplinary.

  • Key areas of training

CeSoS is currently actively involved in training students in two key areas:

    Medical studies

In cooperation with the Institute of Medical Education and Student Affairs (IfAS) at the Faculty of Medicine, CeSoS supports medical students in developing social skills, for example through simulation training, realistic exercise formats, and structured feedback processes. Communication skills are specifically trained and reflected upon in protected, practical settings.

Psychology studies – Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy

In the M.Sc. Psychology program with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, CeSoS supports the training of prospective psychotherapists. In collaboration with various departments of the Psychological Institute, concepts for promoting and assessing social skills are implemented. In addition, students are also trained in structured observation and assessment of these skills.

  • Teaching formats, events, and offerings

CeSoS is integrated into university teaching, where it contributes its expertise in social skills. Psychology students explore the theoretical and methodological foundations of social skills in lectures and seminars or in voluntary workshops. The formats combine scientific concepts with diagnostic and application-oriented perspectives. As part of the planned Social Skills Parcours, students from various disciplines will also have the opportunity to experience and reflect on their own social skills in a practical setting.

Information on current events and offers can be found on the right-hand side of the page under “Offers & Participation” (at the bottom on mobile devices).

  • Theses at CeSoS

Students have the opportunity to write bachelor's or master's theses at CeSoS on topics related to social skills, their conceptualization, assessment, and development.

Current calls for proposals can be found in the central topic pool of the AE Back. Theses related to CeSoS are also listed there.
