CeSoS at the DGPs Congress in Luxembourg
The Center for Social Skills (CeSoS) was involved in six contributions at this year's Congress of the German Psychological Society (DGPs) in Luxembourg. The contributions focused on the behavior-based assessment of individual differences, social dynamics in daily life, and the promotion of social skills.
Simon Breil and Niclas Kuper organized a symposium on assessing individual differences in actual behavior. In it, Simon Breil presented findings on the behavioral expression of social skills in standardized interpersonal simulations from the project Social Skills in Medical Education, and Niclas Kuper compared how well different personality trait measures predict later behavior.
In another symposium on social dynamics and well-being, Lara Kroencke introduced a project on individual differences in affective expectations and reactions to social interactions. Elisa Palme showed how idiographic modeling and cluster analysis can be combined to identify groups of people with similar social dynamics. In addition, Sarah Lindfeld presented a poster on a four-week behavioral intervention to enhance social skills. Leonie Röder presented another poster with results on individual differences in how characteristics of social situations relate to behavior and experience.

In this masterclass, Dr. Simon Breil clarified what can be meaningfully understood by “social skills” and how the term can be structured in such a way that it becomes manageable in a professional context. He classified social skills into distinct sub-areas and discussed which of these are particularly relevant in different roles and situations. One focus was on how social skills manifest themselves in behavior: Which observable indicators actually indicate competence and which are more likely to be sympathy
CeSoS at the DPPD in Kassel
The Center for Social Skills (CeSoS) participated in five presentations at this year's DPPD conference (Differential Psychology, Personality Psychology, and Psychological Diagnostics) in Kassel. The focus was on the conceptualization, assessment, and promotion of social skills, particularly in the context of the PsychSozKomp project.
Among other things, Simon Breil advocated for a behavior-based conceptualization and assessment of social skills in a position paper, Leonie Burghoff presented a multi-source feedback system for psychotherapeutic training, and Sophia Bhatti presented findings on the fit between self-concepts and behavior in therapeutic interactions.
