Dr. Rebecca Melcher will be awarded the Unternehmerinnenpreis Nord Westfalen for her biotech start-up Bex-Biotec

Today, we learned that our alumna Dr. Rebecca Melcher will be awarded the “Unternehmerinnenpreis Nord Westfalen” – the “Womens’ Entrepreneurial Award North Westfalia”. ”Frauen u(U)nternehmen” is a regional network of women who have founded their own companies or who have leading roles in companies, to support each other and to serve as role models for other women who are contemplating such a career for themselves. The network already exists since more than twenty years and it has more than 220 members. The award will be presented to Rebecca on September 2, and the Laudatio will be given by another alumna of our group, Dr. Anne Vortkamp. Rebecca is already acting often as a role model, she keeps being invited by different groups to tell the story of how she founded and is now running her start-up, Bex-Biotec, and convince young men and women that founding a start-up can be highly rewarding. She clearly also serves as a model for our own group: Dr. Sruthi Sreekumar and Dr. Carolin Richter are about to follow her lead with founding greenCAP, and it seems like even more is to come in future. Perhaps it is because watching Rebecca, it almost looks like a cakewalk – though it certainly rather feels like a hurdle race when you’re in it, and requires courage and endurance, energy and resilience. But that only adds to the satisfaction it gives.
