“The only way is up”: Dr. Rebecca Melcher received the Womens’ Entrepreneurial Award 2021 of the network ‘Frauen (u)Unternehmen’

Today, our alumna Dr. Rebecca Melcher received the Unternehmerinnenpreis 2021 – the Womens’ Entrepreneurial Award – of ‘Frauen (u)Unternehmen’, a network for female entrepreneurs and female executives with over 220 members. Their goal is to “make women entrepreneurs in the region visible and ensuring the exchange and networking of women in the economy”. For the sixth time now, they awarded the Womens’ Entrepreneurial Award, in the Erbdrostenhof, certainly the most festive location that can be found in Münster. And this year, Rebecca was awarded as a prime role model to encourage young women to follow her lead and start their own business, even in the highly competitive and finance-intensive field of agro-biotechnology. In her Laudatio, our alumna Dr. Anne Vortkamp, now an innovation scout at the REACH EUREGIO Start-up Center of our university, illuminated both the scientific and the personal background of Rebecca’s success story with her start-up Bex-Biotec , starting with their shared 10 m² room at the University of Hyderabad during their exchange stay there in the framework of the Indo-German Graduate School on Molecular and Cellular Glyco-Sciences MCGS, almost ten years ago. Then Rebecca did not fail to warmly thank her past and present supporters, most importantly her family – parents, siblings, husband, children. On the occasion, Rebecca was made a Honorary Member of Frauen (u)Unternehmen! And finally, with excellent fingerfood and a good glass of wine, almost everyone came to congratulate Rebecca for being such a convincing and deserving awardee, and equally Anne for the best laudatio they had ever heard. We can only add our congratulations!
