Six new young scientists with a BSc in Biosciences

This year, we had three internal and three external Bachelor candidates working for their undergraduate projects, and all of them finished successfully (though some of them submitted a little later). Jennifer Bubenzer worked with Eva Regel on the plant protective activities of chitosan oligomers; Paul Behler worked with Lea Hembach to optimize the biotechnological production of co-polymers of chitin and cellulose; and Lea Ingebrand worked with Max Linhorst on the regio-selective enzymatic modification of chitosan oligomers. Investigating plant biostimulants, including chitosans, and their effects on plant growth and abiotic stress tolerance, Julia Stolz and Sarah Schleper worked abroad, in the Irish company Brandon Bioscience, under the supervision of Dr. Maha Attjioui who obtained her PhD earlier in our group. And finally, Philip Röhe worked in Prof. Dr. Markus Missler’s group in the Institute for Anatomy and Molecular Neurobiology of the Medical Faculty of our University under the supervision of Dr. Carsten Reißner on protein-protein interactions in neuronal synapses. Some of them continued right away with Master studies, either here or elsewhere, and some took a few months off before continuing, either in Biology or in other disciplines. And all of them, we are sure, will prove successful in their further careers. Thanks for having been part of our group and for having contributed to our progress and success!
